Distributed Temperature and Strain Sensing using Spontaneous Brillouin Scattering in Optical Few-Mode Fibers

Abstract

A novel approach to achieve simultaneous distributed temperature and strain sensing based on spontaneous Brillouin scattering in few-mode optical fibers is proposed and experimentally investigated, with high sensitivity using heterodyne detection and optical time-domain reflectometry.
