Optimal Signal Constellation Design for Ultra-High-Speed Optical Transport in the Presence of Phase Noise

Abstract

An optimal signal constellation design algorithm suitable for the phase noise channels is proposed, in which the cumulative log-likelihood-function is used as the optimization criterion. The signal constellations obtained by this algorithm significantly outperform conventional QAM.
