Abstract
Several industrial applications require laser sources in the mid infrared region between 3 and 6 µm. Since many vibrational-rotational absorption lines of aliphatic gases like methane, ethane or formaldehyde reside in this region, tunable laser absorption spectroscopy (TLAS) represents one of the technologies that benefit from compact and stable single mode laser sources in this wavelength window. For portable devices that are powered by battery low power consuming laser sources are desirable.
