We provide an overview of modulation and coding techniques for delivering multi-terabit bandwidth in next-generation high-speed optical networks. Advanced networking technologies that enable flexible switching and carrier-grade packet transport will moreover be discussed. 150-word Biography: Milorad Cvijetic received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Belgrade in 1984. He is currently Professor of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Previously he served as Vice President and Chief Technology Strategist at NEC Corporation of America in Herndon, VA. Prior to that, he was a Principal Scientist at Bell Northern Research (BNR) in Ottawa, Canada. Dr. Cvijetic has authored and co-authored over 100 technical papers and 12 US patents. He is the sole author of three books on optical communications and networking. Throughout his career he has taken part in numerous technical conferences and symposiums, serving in various roles including conference/session chairman, technical committee member, short course instructor, and invited speaker. His research interests include high-speed DWDM optical transmission systems with advanced modulation formats and detection schemes, multilayer high-capacity optical networks, high speed OFDM/WDM PON, and converged optical-wireless systems.
