Reference-free focal spot optimization of a petawatt laser using adaptive optics

Abstract

A novel approach on wavefront correction using adaptive optics has been demonstrated at PHELIX. This reference-free method minimizes the focal spot size by taking advantage of the orthogonality of the underlying Zernike polynomials.
