Optical Generation of Narrow-line RF by Injection Locking of Modulated DFB Lasers

Abstract

A pair of commercial DFB lasers has been phase locked using electro-optic modulation and injection seeding. By mixing the locked lasers’ outputs on a photodetector, we have generated RF from 5 to 50 GHz, with a measured linewidth below 2 Hz.
