Light generated bubble for microparticle propulsion

Abstract

Light activated motion of micron-sized objects with exceptional effective forces (micro-Newtons) and unprecedented speed (~1 m/s) is demonstrated with propulsion generated by short lifetime micro vapor bubbles transforming accumulated heat to mechanical motion.
