Abstract
Single mode fused fiber couplers with a high power handling capability are required for a variety of fiber laser systems in the wavelength region of 1 and 2 μm. In high power Raman lasers [1] as well as in core-pumped fiber lasers and amplifiers these components are used for multiplexing the pump and the signal wavelength. In fiber amplifiers with an auxiliary seed source [2] or in two-tone amplifiers [3] they serve for the seed signal combination. Commercially available single mode fused fiber couplers are often limited with respect to their power handling and required wavelength specifications. Therefore, free-space components have been used in fiber systems, which limit the realization of fully monolithic setups.
