Abstract
Tunable, diode-pumped thulium-based lasers belong to attractive direct sources of laser radiation in spectral range 1.8 - 2 µm with possible applications in atmospheric remote sensing, high-resolution spectroscopy, and laser radar. [1] Fluorides belong to promising thulium-doped laser hosts as they are characterized by sufficiently shorter phonon spectra compared to oxides, resulting in much weaker multiphonon relaxation allowing to obtain oscillations with high optical efficiency and minimal thermal losses. [2] A new Tm:BaF2 crystal has been developed and investigated and in this work we report on its preliminary laser results under direct laser diode pumping.
