Abstract
Solid-state Raman lasers, both in intra- or extra-cavity pump configurations, typically require addition discrete cavity mirrors. This inevitably increases passive optical losses in the Raman laser, and requires alignment of the Raman resonator. Such “classic” designs add complexity to the task of engineering a simple, compact and alignment-free add-on to commercially available laser systems for generation of alternative laser wavelengths via stimulated Raman scattering (SRS). In this report, we demonstrate a monolithic plane-plane Raman laser that overcomes these issues, with all necessary Raman laser mirrors being deposited directly onto the crystal faces. Green to yellow-orange conversion is demonstrated in synthetic diamond with an efficiency of 59%. The effect of gain-guiding on stabilisation of Raman laser mode is discussed.
