Abstract
At optical frequencies, correlated photon pairs are routinely generated using parametric down-conversion of lasers in nonlinear optical crystals. They constitute an important tool when investigating the foundations of quantum mechanics, e.g. by testing different forms of Bell's inequality or demonstrating quantum teleportation. Entangled photon pairs also form an invaluable resource for quantum communication protocols, like secure quantum key distribution, as well as for high precision measurements. So far, most of the work on correlated photons has concentrated on optical frequencies.
