Abstract

Optical amplifiers operating in the spectral region around 2 μm are interesting for environmental monitoring, high resolution molecular spectroscopy, frequency metrology, and medicine. Thulium-holmium-doped fibers employed as gain materials in amplifiers operating near 2 μm are attractive for their high emission cross-sections and spectrally broad transition, and alignment-free operation allowed by all-fiber technology.
