Abstract

Semiconducting single-wall carbon nanotubes, quasi-one-dimensional materials with exciton energies that depend on their diameter, are currently examined for application in nano–photonics [1]. Fundamental photonic building blocks such as the single carbon nanotube light emitting p-i-n diode [2] and the single carbon nanotube microcavity-controlled light emitter [3] have recently been demonstrated. They can be considered important steps towards the demonstration of a fully integrated, electrically excited carbon nanotube quantum light source.
