Abstract

The physical mechanism for the self-organization of periodic grating structures on a metal surface under the irradiation of a femtosecond laser pulse is presented, and the experimental result of laser fluence dependence on grating spaces is successfully interpreted for the first time. The fluence dependence is qualitatively reproduced by the energy spectroscopy of ions emitted from the surface.
