Abstract

KGd(PO3)4 (hereafter KGdP) is a promising bifunctional crystal, in which the laser emission and a nonlinear optical process can occur simultaneously [1]. It belongs to the family of condensed phosphate compounds and is a monoclinic noncentrosymmetric host, with space group P21, with unit cell parameters a = 7.255(4) Å, b = 8.356(5) Å, c = 7.934 Å, β = 91.68(5)0 and Z = 2 [1]. KGdP possesses a large transmission window extending from about 180 nm to 4 μm which covers both the fundamental and the second harmonic range for neodymium and ytterbium 1 micron emission. Due to its monoclinic structure KGdP shows anisotropy in all its physical properties. The present contribution is devoted to the evaluation of its thermal properties.
