Abstract

Previously we described a new experimental technique to measure the absolute refractive index of air using frequency comb system [1]. Here we report improved precision measurement of the refractive indices of air and CO2. The measured air index agrees with Edlen’s formula to within 1.4×10−9 at 800 nm, while the CO2 result shows a bigger deviation with earlier results by Old et al. by 4.78×10−6 at 800 nm [2].
