Laser-induced tissue oxygenation and new technology of elimination of local tissue hypoxia

Abstract

The important abnormal characteristics of solid tumors are their location in the regions with reduced oxygen concentration (hypoxia). A significant hypoxic area within human solid tumors is confirmed in direct experimental studies of oxygen tension in tumor tissue with oxygen electrodes. The deficit of oxygen in cancer tissue is the major problem that limits the efficiency of solid tumor treatment by photodynamic (PDT), radiation and chemotherapeutic methods. Therefor the problem of extra oxygen delivery into solid tumor tissue is considered one of the actual problems of modem oncology.
