Abstract
In wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical communication system, gain clamped fiber amplifier is one of important sub-systems to compensate signal power transient caused by adding-dropping WDM-channels in addition to amplification [1]. Especially all optical gain clamping (AOGC) method is a simple and efficient technique using a feedback laser counteracting signal variations without a complex control by electronics. But the problem is that the feedback laser inevitably occupies one part of signal band and can add noise in neighboring channels. In this paper we propose a new AOGC technique generating a clamping laser out of signal band in a fiber Raman amplifier with a resonant cavity (RC-FRA) [2].
