Abstract

Nowadays digital techniques are being proposed to compensate for chromatic dispersion in metropolitan and regional optical communication networks. Electronic dispersion compensation can be performed at the receiver [1] or at the transmitter by predistorsion [2], Electronic predistorsion is usually more complex than electronic equalization, because it requires very high speed digital electronics. In this paper a much simpler technique, based on analog predistorsion, is described. The performance and the capabilities of this technique are analyzed in the case of 10 Gb/s Non-Return-to- Zero (NRZ) signals.
