Single attosecond pulse generation using a seed harmonic pulse train

Abstract

The recent progress in the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) technique has enabled the production of ultrashort soft-x-ray (SX) and extreme ultraviolet (XUV) pulses. A single attosecond pulse (SAP), in particular, is critical for the study of the electron dynamics inside atoms. In spite of tremendous amount of efforts, however, demonstrated SAP generation is limited to only a few groups, whose schemes require high-power sub-10-fs (typically 5-fs) laser pulses with precise carrier-envelope phase (CEP) and/or polarization modulation control. In the present study, we propose a new scheme of SAP generation using multi-cycle (> 10 fs) linearly-polarized laser pulses, based on enhanced HHG [1], namely, attosecond enhancement gate for isolated pulse generation (AEGIS) [2].
