Abstract
Intersubband absorption (ISBA) has been demonstrated as a basis for ultrafast optical switching and modulation [1-3], To date, research has focused on all-optical switching by ISBA [2] in which rapid absorption saturation is advantageous [3], contrary to the requirements of electroabsorption modulation. This paper describes a study of the scope for using intersubband transitions as a basis for electroabsorption modulation of 1550 mn wavelength light.
