Abstract
We consider second harmonic generation in the whispering gallery modes (WGM) of a dielectric microsphere. These very high quality resonators have potential application in nonlinear wave-mixing, signal filtering, and to study molecule-cavity interaction. On the surface of the sphere, inversion symmetry is broken, allowing the existence of a local second-order susceptibility. We thus analyze the generation due to a surface nonlinearity.
