Abstract

A novel scheme of waveguide SHG device is as shown in Fig. 11) It uses z-cut lithium niobate doped with 5% MgO, and has three periodically poled areas (PPL PP2, PP3) and two electrooptical phase modulators (PMI, PM2) on an optical waveguide made by proton exchanging. We tenned it ‘DPM-PPLN’ waveguide. Applying voltage on PM2 can slip the phase-relation between fundamental and SH wave from PP1 area, for instance. Thus the power flow between the waves in PP2 became controllable. The PM2 and PP3 areas are important for improving the characteristic and novel point in comparison with previously proposal.2,3) Two schematics; inequilateral-type (type-I) and equilateral-type (type-E) were investigated. In type-I, the PP3 was shorter than that of PP1,2, type-E has same length for PP1,2,3. A modulation voltage is applied on PM1 and DC-voltage on PM2 for zero-offset. In type-E, modulation voltage applied on PM1/PM2 but PM2 needs bias for zero-offset. The numerical simulation said that.
