Abstract

Raman fibre lasers (RFLs) are efficient light sources and present excellent potentials in a variety of applications. As high-power pump and Stokes waves are trapped in a fibre cavity with a small core, RFLs are inherently nonlinear devices and present very interesting performance characteristics. One of the most important attributes of a RFL is its output spectrum winch exhibits substantial broadening. Tins is likely to occur due to nonlinear four-wave mixing (FWM) [1]. The nonlinear interaction may be additionally enhanced in a longer laser cavity. Here we examine a spectral broadening of the Stokes radiation generated in the RFLs with ultra-long cavity (up to 84km).
