Locking of two delay coupled semiconductor lasers: dependence on the pump current

Abstract

We study theoretically two semiconductor lasers that are mutually delay-coupled via their optical fields, where the delay arises due to the finite propagation time of the light from one laser to the other. We concentrate on the dynamics within the locking region, that is the region where compound laser modes exist; Ref [1]. A compound laser mode (CLM) is a solution were both lasers emit continuous wave output with a common optical frequency. In particular, we find that the stability of the CLMs depends on the pump current of the lasers; Ref. [2]. Moreover, we identify different regions of dynamics within the locking region of coupled lasers.
