Abstract
Prions offer a variety of transitions in the visible and near infrared spectral range. Thus, it is an interesting ion for different applications such as medicine, spectroscopy, and microscopy. The generation of UV radiation via nonlinear frequency conversion is an easy-to-handle single-step procedure using such Pr-lasers. In 2006, the generation of continuous wave (cw) UV radiation by intracavity second harmonic generation (SHG) of red Pr3+:LiYF4 (Pr:YLF) and Pr3+:BaY2F8 laser radiation at 640 nm [1] was reported for the first time.
