Abstract

A novel ultra-thin fiber-tip micro-bubble pressure sensor is fabricated by pressure-assisted arc discharge in this paper. The sealed capillary which filled with pressure, was discharged continuously to fabricate such ultra-thin micro- bubble just by using a common fusion splicer. The fabrication approach is relatively simple, high efficiency and easy to handle. The wall thickness of micro-bubble can reach several micrometers. The pressure sensitivity was 105.08 pm/Kpa and temperature sensitivity was 7.7 pm/℃. Moreover, such micro- bubble sensor has compact size, good mechanical strength and the thinner wall than traditional Fabry-Perot sensor, which makes it suitable for high sensitivity pressure sensing in harsh environments and of great significance in the development of whispering gallery modes and FP interference sensor.
