Abstract

Magneto optical imaging of small magnetic fields High resolution imaging small magnetic fields is useful in a number of fields ranging from material to medical sciences. While sensitive detection of magnetic fields has been achieved with SQUIDS or atom vapor magnetometers, sensitive imaging with high sensitivity has remained elusive so far. Using magneto-optically active systems - especially the nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond - may become an extremely valuable tool in this respect. The talk will describe how to achieve pT/Hz1/2 with NV ensemble-based magnetometry and demonstrate how to detect the magnetic field of single proteins with nm resolution.
