Abstract
Using a fully vectorial finite element method, we have calculated the Brillouin gain spectra of large mode area, random acoustically microstructured photonic crystal fibers. We found that the peak Brillouin gain depends on the acoustic domain size and that a 4% spread in acoustic velocities results in peak Brillouin gain values that are suppressed by 8 dB relative compared to homogeneous fused silica fibers.
