Deci-gigavolt Electrons from a Millitorr Gas Struck by a Sub-Joule Ultra-short Laser Pulse: an Exact Simulation

Abstract

We have calculated the exact trajectories of 3321 electrons when struck by one 0.6 Joule optical pulse that is an exact solution of Maxwell’s equations. These 3321 were initially at rest in a 1µm-spaced cubic lattice around the focus of the 1µm-wavelength pulse. Electrons gained energies up to 0.230 GeV.
