Abstract

We carried out a laboratory experiment of a pre-optical system for a stellar coronagraph to suppress stellar speckle noise for direct detection of exo-planets. It consists of an unbalanced nulling interferometer (UNI) and phase and amplitude correction (PAC) system. We observed that a speckle level in the focal plane was successfully suppressed (from 1.8×10−4 to 2.9×10−5) by the virtual wavefront correction of lambda/(100×7.0) rms in the UNI-PAC system.
