Optically coupled rod-type fiber system: oscillator versus oscillator-amplifier behaviour

Abstract

A Q-switched laser system which couples two ytterbium doped fibers is presented. Depending on the pump intensity this system yields either short or long nanosecond pulses. The gain competition accounts for the observed phenomena.
