Beam Quality and Modal Content for LMA Fiber Sources

Abstract

It is shown that good beam quality in LMA fibers supporting several guided modes does not imply low Higher-Order-Mode content, and that this HOM content can lead to uncontrollable phase-dependent beam quality and pointing uncertainty.
