Abstract

An SBS gain efficiency of 0.0088 (m-W)-1 was measured in an LP08 higher order mode optical fiber at 1083 nm. Comparative measurements in a single mode fiber confirm that the SBS threshold scales with the inverse modal effective area of 1714 μm2 yielding a single frequency SBS threshold power-length product of 2.4 kW-m.
