Photonic crystal fibre tapers and devices

Abstract

Tapering (heat treatment after fabrication) can radically change the properties of photonic crystal fibres over centimetre lengths. Such transitions give useful fibre devices, including low-loss interfaces to dissimilar fibres, waveguides and other optical systems.
