Abstract
Increased scattering and decreased diffraction loss introduced by symmetrically etched wedge patterns in proton-implanted vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers are investigated. We show proper wedge design leads to improved fundamentalmode output power, decreased threshold, and increased efficiency.
