High-power terahertz radiation source based on difference frequency mixing of CO2 laser lines

Abstract

A ~2 MW, 250 ps terahertz pulse was generated in a noncollinear phase-matched GaAs crystal at room temperature. Tunable CO2 lasers in combination with this technique should yield a source in the 0.1–3.0 THz range.
