Monolithic Integration of VCSELs with a Horizontal Waveguide Grating Coupler

Abstract

A monolithic VCSEL structure with output coupling to an internal waveguide using integrated diffraction gratings was demonstrated. The horizontal waveguides can be used to route optical signals to other components for VCSEL-based photonic integrated circuits.
