Abstract

The use of SOAs as in-line amplifiers in WDM systems leads to crosstalk as a result of cross-gain modulation. Constant intensity modulation format such as differential phase-shift-keying is in principle immune to XGM-induced crosstalk in SOAs. We report the reduction of crosstalk in a bi-directional system and successfully realize 16×10Gb/s DWDM signals transmission over 80km SMF-28 using DPSK modulation format for the first time.
