Near-Field Sensor Using Photonic Crystal Slabs

Abstract

We introduce a novel displacement sensing mechanism using photonic crystal slabs coupled in the near-field regime. The characteristics are completely different from conventional Fabry-Perot sensors, and high sensitivity can be obtained without using high-reflectivity mirrors.
