Self-Focusing Effects in Femtosecond Laser-induced Damage in Solids

Abstract

We show that nonlinear propagation phenomena can alter the laser-induced breakdown threshold in bulk materials. These effects play a critical role in the resulting damage morphology and explain previously discrepant damage measurements.
