Abstract

Spatio-temporally resolved terahertz pulses elucidate the effect of spherical aberration and surface waves on far field THz beam profiles. The observed “swallowtail” pulse shape is predicted by catastrophe theory and occurs in a wide range of ultrafast transmissive THz optical systems.
