Photonic band edge laser from free-standing square lattice photonic crystal slabs are realized at room temperature. The normalized frequencies of measured data are compared with the calculated results obtained from three dimensional plane wave expansion methods. Lasing wavelengths correspond to several X and M points of TE-like bands.
