Abstract

We define experimentally and theoretically a regime in which relativistically intense pulses propagate through initially un-ionized mm-scale profiles of <1atm He or H2 gas without spectral or transverse mode distortion by simultaneously minimizing ionization-induced defocusing and relativistic self-focusing.
