Abstract

A regenerative amplifier (regen) is an important part of the front-end laser system for the 30-kJ (UV), 60-beam OMEGA fusion facility. This regen must be able to amplify complex-shaped optical pulses of 0.1- to 8-ns duration1 to milli- joule level with high stability and no or little (and predictable) pulse distortion. The flashlamp- pumped regens currently used in OMEGA employ a complicated negative-feedback system to provide high output stability.2
