Abstract

Non centrosymmetric KTiOPO4 (KTP) is an efficient material for intra-cavity second harmonic generation (SHG) of type I and type II and, therefore, of high technological interest. It is used, e.g., for the construction of diode pumped Nd:YAG laser systems for the generation of light of the wavelength λ = 532 nm. However, the lifetime of such laser systems is reduced by two effects, which are caused by light-induced phenomena in the KTP crystal.
