Abstract

Recently, we have discovered the novel phenomenon of pulse trapping by the ultrashort soliton pulse across the zero-dispersion wavelength.1 The optical pulse at normal dispersion region is trapped by the ultrashort soliton pulse at anomalous dispersion region. The wavelength of the trapped pulse is shifted to satisfy the group velocity matching and the trapped pulse and soliton pulse copropagate along the fiber. This new phenomenon of pulse trapping is useful for manipulation of optical pulses, such as wavelength control, output time, and temporal shape.
