Abstract

All-fiber optical switches and modulators are extremely important now in optical telecommunications. Such devices based on side-polished fibers (SPFs)1 with electro-optic or liquid crystal overlays have been demonstrated.2-5 However, the fabrication of such overlays is time consuming. Nevertheless, the idea of employing such a design and resonance interaction between the fiber mode and the high-index overlay4 modes is still attractive.
