Abstract

As the various types of systems are being developed tu fully utilize the optical fiber bandwidth is adopted to the access network, Dense WDM technologies in long-haul systems are being readily applied 1o metro-networks over the 1.5 μm communication window.1 As an alternative to DWDM, coarse WDM systems in the similar wavelength ranges have been proposed2 with much less complicated requirements for MUX/DEMUX and light sources. On the while, Giga-bit Ethernet has been actively developed for LAN and Metro Ethernet applications using optical signals in ~0.8 μm, and ~ 1.3 μm.3
