Abstract
Recent results demonstrate that quantum dot active regions can be used to produce ultra low threshold current lasers [e.g. 1], However, the reduced density of states that facilitates the low transparancy current and consequent low threshold current is accompanied by a smaller modal gain than is usual in a quantum well device.
